Wearable Camera Startup Narrative Secures $8M in Funding Led by Khosla Ventures

Founded in 2012, Narrative announces a new round of funding, expansion into the US and 100 million user photos milestone

San Francisco, CA (September 3, 2014) – Narrative, the Swedish company that introduced the world’s smallest wearable camera, announces its latest round in funding, led by San Francisco-based venture capital firm, Khosla Ventures. The new round of funding will support Narrative’s expansion of sales and retail efforts into the US. The company will also significantly expand the team to further improve the Narrative service and app.

Narrative brought its highly anticipated wearable digital camera to market in January and after just 8 months, 100 million photos have been taken using Narrative Clip wearable cameras.

“We’ve experienced significant growth over the past year,” said Martin Källström, Co-Founder and CEO of Narrative. “With the opportunity to work with Khosla Ventures, we can continue to build on this growth and improve the Narrative Clip and our services. Opening an office in San Francisco is one of the milestones on the path to create a world where everyone can tell their own story.

Narrative joins a host of wearable technology companies backed by Khosla Ventures, including Theatro, Jawbone and MisFit Wearables. Keith Rabois, formerly COO of Square and now Partner at Khosla Ventures, joins the Board of Directors.

“Narrative captures all the moments in people’s lives seamlessly and tells a story that’s meaningful and memorable,” said Keith Rabois, partner at Khosla Ventures. “The process of capturing the moment no longer takes you out of the moment.”

On the board is also Om Malik, partner at True Ventures, which is already an investor in Narrative along with Passion Capital, both of which are also

participating in the new round, and Narrative co-founders Oskar Kalmaru and Björn Wesén.

”True invests in companies that capture the world’s imagination, and we are only just touching the surface of the creative uses for the Narrative Clip,” said Om Malik, partner at True Ventures. ”We are thrilled to continue our support of this innovative company and its wonderful founding team.”

Narrative, which is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing camera products of all time, is expanding its operations to San Francisco this fall. The San Francisco office will lead the company’s expansion into the US market.

Reports show people are sharing and uploading over 1.8 billion photos each day. As this trend continues to increase, Narrative is revolutionizing the way people capture and share pictures, automatically snapping photos every 30 seconds and organizing them into sequenced “moments” that can be easily searched and shared.

Reflecting on all the great memories shared, the Narrative team has asked people from their community to come up with one moment in their lives that they wish they could re-live. Check out what they had to say. To learn more about the Narrative Clip visit www.getnarrative.com.
